Transportation Studies

FLH works collaboratively with our FLMA partners, States, local governments, non-profit organizations, and others to conduct research and analyze state-of-the-practice transportation applications relative to activities to and within Federal Lands.

Unit Plans address areas of critical concern for the transportation system that are identified in the long range transportation planning process. Transportation planning is critically important at the unit level. The FLMA has flexibility to determine the best means of addressing this need. Unit plans include the following:

  • New comprehensive management plans (General Management Plan, Comprehensive Conservation Plan, Forest Plan) with an integrated transportation element;
  • Addendum or update to a comprehensive management plan with an integrated transportation element; or
  • Comprehensive transportation study that includes an assessment of needs
