Description

The Bureau of Reclamation has approximately 300 public bridges and 1500 non-public bridges in its National Bridge Inventory. Almost all are at least 50 years old and many are in rural, low volume settings. This challenge is the same for many other Federal Land Management Agencies (FLMAs) across the country.

This project developed an easy-to-use guide for bridge inspectors and bridge designers, with recommendations for practical and low-cost solutions to address bridge rails, curbs, approach barriers, transitions, terminals, and delineation for extremely low volume conditions at three speed categories. The findings of this research are in an Inspection/Design Guide for Extremely Low Volume Bridges.
