Pg 7-8: Case Studies in Realizing Co-Benefits of Multimodal Roadway Design and Gray and Green Infrastructure

Comment:
This case study focuses on 21st Street and Green Street in Paso Robles, CA. Due to aging infrastructure, 21st Street became a flooding hazard that became a safety concern for those using the street. The solution was to redesign a complete ped/bike-friendly green street with a day-lit channel and underlying infiltration trench in the median. After completion of this project, pedestrian volumes increased, average vehicle speed decreased, and this became a key route for active transportation.
