Description

The project identified small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) that can collect high resolution condition data while complying with federal aviation requirements and maneuvering through and around all elements of steel bridges, particularly beam and truss elements and bracing. Recent research and experience reveal the limitations of agency approved systems to maneuver around steel bridge elements to obtain condition data on all portions of the elements and to capture quality data for a complete condition evaluation of these elements. This project identified equipment and procedures that will improve the quality of condition data collection and will benefit all agencies that maintain a bridge inventory.
