Description

While many existing strategies can mitigate Alkali-Silica reaction (ASR) distress in new constructions, few available choices are effective in mitigating ASR distress in existing structures. This research will build upon early investigations into the use of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UPHC) encapsulation of ASR-affected concrete bridge elements to evaluate the costs and benefits of this mitigation strategy compared to traditional superstructure waterproofing.
