Description
Engineered log jams and concrete dolosse (ELJ/CD) are constructed to mimic natural processes to minimize streambank erosion. ELJ/CDs can be an effective tool in sustainable river management. However, because regulatory agencies still consider these tools novel and experimental, permits require extended monitoring and compensatory mitigation. This research will develop a long-term monitoring program for these installations through inventorying and documenting ELJ/CD constructions in Western US. Data from this research will help project delivery agencies and permitting agencies to develop consistent permit requirements and monitoring protocols for informing the future design of ELJ/CD projects.
