Program Overview

The Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program (WCPP) is a competitive grant program with the goal of reducing Wildlife Vehicle Collisions (WVCs) while improving habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species. See https://highways.dot.gov/federal-lands/wildlife-crossings for more information.

Fiscal Year 2022- 2023 Application Process  

FHWA issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) making up to $111.85 million from Fiscal Year 2022 and 2023 funding available for WCPP.  The NOFO was posted on April 4, 2023 and closed on August 1, 2023 as Funding Opportunity Number: 693JJ323NF00011 on grants.gov.

FHWA received 67 applications from applicants in 34 States requesting $549 million in WCPP funds. This represents nearly five times the amount available in the first NOFO, and over one and a half times the amount available for the program over the life of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

FHWA Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program FY 2022 - FY 2023 Grant Selections

On December 5, 2023, FHWA announced $110 million in grants for 19 wildlife crossing projects in 17 states, including four Indian Tribes.
