Description

The project objectives include identifying small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) that can collect high resolution condition data while complying with federal aviation requirements and maneuvering through and around all elements of steel bridges of various types, particularly beam and truss elements and bracing. Recent research and experience have revealed limitations of agency approved systems in maneuverability around steel bridge elements to obtain condition data on all portions of the elements and the ability to capture data of sufficient quality to complete a detailed condition evaluation of these elements. This project will identify equipment and procedures that will improve the quality of condition data collection and will benefit all agencies that maintain a bridge inventory.
