Reduced Carbon Concrete in Mix Design: Phase I
Status
Not Started.
Description
FLMA Partners regularly use concrete for improvements at managed lands (sidewalks, curb, ADA ramps). A national push exists to reduce concrete’s carbon footprint, achievable by reducing (or partial replacement of) Portland cement and optimized aggregate blending, while lowering costs by using less Portland cement. Strategies will be assessed for resource constrained rural areas; this research will assess feasibility by identifying 2 – 3 reduced carbon concrete pilot section locations at the Presidio (construction funded separately). Construction will be observed, challenges noted, and initial performance monitored. Findings are expected to help FLMA partners navigate industry efforts to use reduced carbon concrete.
