National Park Service Recreational Travel Forecasting
Status
Phase 1, Complete
Phase 2, Active
Description
The first phase of the research project sought to understand in-park trip chaining travel patterns and duration of stay using passive mobile device Bluetooth technology towards predicting congestion hot spots, and defining travel pattern profiles. Bluetooth detectors were deployed at Mount Rainer National Park (MORA) to collect sample data. Phase 2 will advance the use of passively collected data towards the development of realtime traffic condition tools for increased traveler awareness, and travel forecasting.
