Effectiveness of Engineered Log Jams Status
Status
Not Started.
Description
Engineered log jams and concrete dolosse (ELJ/CD) are constructed to mimic natural processes to minimize streambank erosion. ELJ/CDs can be an effective tool in sustainable river management; however, they are considered novel and experimental by the regulatory agencies, as such the permits require extended monitoring and compensatory mitigation. This research will develop a long-term monitoring program for these installations through inventorying and documenting the constructed ELJ/CD in Western US. Data gathered from this research will help project delivery agencies and the permitting agencies develop consistent permit requirements and monitoring protocols that will help inform the future design of ELJ/CD projects.
