Edge Lane Roads on Public Lands
Status
Active
Description
This research will investigate the safety and capacity-expanding potential of the Edge Lane Road (ELR) treatment on Federal lands. An ELR is a roadway that supports two-way motor vehicle traffic in a single center lane, with space for vulnerable road in the “edge lanes” on either side. ELRs - under the right conditions - have potential for improving traffic flow while underscoring the need to keep vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians safe." Primary products of this research will be memoranda advising federal land management agencies the benefits and cautions of ELRs.
