Alkali-Silica Reactivity Mitigation by UHPC Encasement
Status
Not Started.
Description
While many strategies exist to mitigate Alkali-Silica reaction (ASR) distress in new constructions, few effective choices are available to mitigate ASR distress in existing structures. This research will build upon early investigations into the use of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UPHC) encapsulation of ASR affected concrete bridge elements. Further evaluation of cost/benefit of this mitigation strategy needed beyond the traditional waterproofing of superstructure to keep water off concrete.
