Pg 25-37: Pedestrian Safety: a road safety manual for decision-makers and practitioners
Discusses how roadway design affects pedestrian safety while providing statistics and examples of how aspects of the roadway impact pedestrians. The aspects discussed are: traffic mix, width, speed, pedestrian crossings, traffic, and perception of safety in the travel environment. Also gives guidance on how to implement the interventions of reducing ped exposure to vehicular traffic, speeds, visibility, safety awareness, vehicle design for ped protection, and providing care for injuries. Additionally, it gives case studies of changes in the road design that led to increased safety, as well as listing other changes in design and land use that can be beneficial for roadway safety.
