Pg 13-14: Case Studies in Realizing Co-Benefits of Multimodal Roadway Design and Gray and Green Infrastructure
This case study focuses on the Iowa Green Streets Pilot Program in West Union, IA, where downtown streets, sidewalks, and public areas were deteriorated. Through collaboration with multiple partners, streets and sidewalks were widened and rebuilt with permeable pavers and stonework, intersections received high-visibility crossing treatments and the installation of mid-block crosswalks, as well as building a geothermal heating and cooling system beneath the new street system, and other features.
