Technical Assistance & Training

Overview

FHWA and the National Highway Institute have several programs and courses to help you.

  • Safety Performance Measures Resources and Support
    This document provides an overview of several training and workshop opportunities as well as resources that FHWA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the National Highway Institute (NHI) have developed to help State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) establish targets for the five safety performance measures to support the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

  • FHWA Technical Assistance Program
    The Office of Safety offers technical assistance on policy, programs and technical issues to State and local roadway agencies through the technical assistance program. A Peer to Peer Exchange is an example of a type of technical assistance offered.

  • FHWA Resource Center Safety and Design Team
    The Safety and Design Team works closely with FHWA Headquarters, field offices and other Federal agencies to provide technical assistance, technology deployment and training to partners and customers in the field of transportation safety.

  • NHI Transportation Performance Management for Safety Training Course 138006
    This course is designed for stakeholders implementing the Safety Performance Measures Final Rule. The course walks participants through the various provisions and assist participants with reviewing various options for setting evidence-based targets.

    • National Highway Institute is the training and education Center of FHWA and includes a variety of courses related to safety and Transportation Performance Management
