State Practices for Local Road Safety

Description:

This document provides resources to State and local agencies to help overcome challenges related to supporting local road safety as part of State safety programs. The tool describes safety programs and funding sources, and provides a review noteworthy practices to show ways that State and local agencies have come together to advance local safety programs, such as through the development of systems, processes, and plans to formalize local road safety as a priority at the State level. Many example tools, forms, and resources associated with local road safety are included in Appendix D, and could be adapted for use at a State or local agency. The document goes into detail regarding organization structure, funding and project prioritization, and the development of local road safety plans. The appendices contain the survey results as well as sample documents of practices related to local road safety, including local road safety plans, reports, project application forms, and partnership agreements.
