State, Tribal, and Local Agency Safety Data Integration
FHWA's State and Local Data Integration Project is designed to help State, Tribal, and local agencies identify cost-effective ways to develop safety data systems that integrate safety data on all public roads. Final products of the project are the development of a safety data integration informational guide and technical assistance in its application. The guide’s flexible structure is shown in the the nine-step graphic on this page.
Benefit to Your Agency
The informational guide can help agencies develop an approach for integrating local road data into state data systems. Doing so ensure that they have complete data for safety decision making aimed at improving safety on all public roads.
With integrated safety data, agencies are better able to:
- Identify and understand issues.
- Prioritize locations for treatment.
- Apply appropriate countermeasures.
- Evaluate countermeasure safety impacts.
Next Steps
FHWA invites States, Tribes, and local agencies to contact the project manager, or their Division Office staff, to request technical assistance in developing their own Business Plan for Safety Data Integration.
