The Pedestrian and Bicycle GIS Safety Tools utilize GIS software to link statistical data (e.g., crashes) and geographic data (e.g., roads and crash locations) for spatial analysis and mapping. This tool is useful to help visualize the data accumulated in crash and roadway databases. It also generates a walking or bicycle route based on shortest or safest route to school. The bicycle compatibility index is calculated for streets and is presented graphically. Intended users include parents, school transportation officials, and others responsible for the safety of school children.
