NCHRP Report 754: Improving Management of Transportation Information

Description:

This information guide presents guidance for improving transportation information management. Information is defined as reports, manuals, maps, plans, and photographs printed on paper; electronic files and databases stored on computer networks or in machine-readable media; DOT business practices; and records and observations of transportation system configuration, operations, and facilities design, materials, and construction. The guide begins with a discussion of terminology and established standards related to information management. Six detailed case studies and twenty examples from State DOTs and other agencies demonstrate noteworthy practices that could improve information management at a reader’s agency.
