The Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) is a listing of roadway features and traffic volume elements to help agencies move toward data-driven decision-making in safety management. The guidebook enumerates, prioritizes, and provides proposed attributes of roadway inventory elements. The guidebook specifies definitions, attributes, and tool requirements for each element. These elements are either currently used by State and local Departments of Transportation (DOTs) in their safety analyses or needed in new safety-analysis tools. MIRE is a guideline to help transportation agencies improve their roadway and traffic data inventories.
