The Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) is a recommended listing of roadway features and traffic volume elements to help agencies improve their roadway and traffic data inventories and move toward data-driven decision-making in safety management. The guidebook enumerates, prioritizes, and provides proposed attributes of roadway inventory elements. The guidebook specifies definitions, attributes, and tool requirements for each element. These elements are either currently used by State and local Departments of Transportation (DOTs) in their safety analyses or needed in new safety-analysis tools. A reassessment of MIRE resulted in MIRE 2.0. MIRE 2.0 provides an update of the previous version of MIRE. It includes a revised format to reflect agencies’ transitions to modern database environments and aligns with other datasets across FHWA.
