This report documents a series of research efforts by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to develop a Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) and research the feasibility of implementing such an inventory, specifically at State DOTs, through the development of a MIRE Management Information System (MIRE MIS). MIRE is intended to be a model inventory of data to conduct advanced safety analysis with current and future tools, and the MIRE MIS is intended to be a model data management structure used for managing and maintaining the inventory.
