Michigan Division Overview

The Federal Highway Administration - Michigan Division is located in Lansing, Michigan, the State capital and heart of the lower-peninsula.  Michigan is a geographically large and diverse state consisting of large urbanized areas in the Southern portion to very remote and rural areas in the Northern lower-peninsula and the upper-peninsula.  In 2024, Michigan had the 10th largest population in the United States with the vast majority residing in the lower peninsula (U.S.

Emergency Relief Information

The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Emergency Relief, or ER, program can help State and local agencies fund repairs to Federal-aid eligible roads, bridges, and other infrastructure after a natural disaster such as hurricanes.

The repair work within the right-of-way of Federal-aid highways is usually eligible to receive ER funds, if the roadway is in an affected county that is included in the Governor's Declaration or Presidential Declaration.
