Unsignalized Intersection Improvement Guide (UIIG)

Description:

The Unsignalized Intersection Improvement Guide (UIIG) contains practical guidance for improving the safety, mobility, and accessibility at unsignalized intersections including stop-control, yield-control, no control, and roundabout intersections, as well as other unsignalized intersection types.

The UIIG includes two parts – an information guide and a toolkit. The information guide contains information about the various types of unsignalized intersections, common safety problems, types of treatments, traffic control type alternatives, and related policy. The toolkit provides users with various forms, tools, and other resources for implementing projects and improving programs. One of the tools is the UIIG Treatment Selection Tool, which guides users through selecting appropriate safety improvements from a list of seventy-five engineering and enforcement treatments.  Each countermeasure is accompanied by a one-page fact sheet that lists the target crash types, problems and conditions addressed by the treatment, and considerations and contraindications for users to review.
