Traffic Safety and Human Behavior is a book that describes a theoretical framework and a critical evaluation of the most recent research findings to comprehend the complexity of the roadway safety issue. The book discusses the advances and the challenges in this area over the past five decades. The first part of the book provides background, theories, and models of driver behaviors. The next few chapters of the book discuss driver capacities, the effects of age, speed and safety, and the effects of impairments. The last part of the book is focused on crash causation, crash analysis, and countermeasures. The book also covers pedestrians, cyclists, and the need to accommodate them. Finally, the book discusses the increasing roles of crash prevention, driver-assistance systems, and how they change the driver-vehicle interaction.
