Illinois Department of Transportation Over-Representation Tool

Description:

The over-representation tool is a Microsoft® Excel® user form and Visual Basic-based application to test for over-representation of various crash-related characteristics. The tool assesses if an intersection or roadway segment has over-represented characteristics compared to Illinois statewide expected crash frequencies. Expected crash frequencies can be aggregated based on total statewide averages or disaggregated into smaller peer groups. The following is a general description of the operation of the tool.

  • Select the appropriate segment or intersection parameters for the test location.
  • Select the specific peer group for the test location. If the peer group information is unknown, select all peer groups.
  • Select the over-representation threshold. Value options are 0.90, 0.95, or 0.99.
  • Input test location data, if applicable (see below for details).
  • Select up to five crash characteristic categories to analyze.
  • Populate the crash categories accordingly.
