Dickey Creek Bridge
Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to replace the bridge with a wider and longer structure that will safely provide access for all vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians while reducing flood impacts and restoring natural river processes. Replacing the bridge will also remove load restrictions, improve storm water drainage, provide better aquatic habitat and natural stream channel function, and improve water quality.
Background:
The North Fork Teanaway Road is a high use gateway to the national forest and many types of recreational activities. It is the sole paved road providing access to the North Fork Teanaway River and sole access to the Yakima Nation Jack Creek Salmon Acclimation Facility. This corridor is one of the most heavily utilized access points in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest (OWNF) due to the paved roadway and proximity to western Washington metropolitan areas.
The Dickey Creek bridge over the North Fork Teanaway River is a chronic maintenance issue that is functionally obsolete. The bridge is undersized, damaged, and currently at risk of abutment failure during high-water events. The bridge is also load restricted, which impairs maintenance activities, winter snow removal, and impairs fire suppression capabilities by reducing the type of equipment that can mobilize across the structure.
