Dear Mr. Granger:

In your August 23 and October 17 letters to Mr. James H. Hatton, Jr. you requested assurance that the minor changes that have been made in the Minute Man breakaway device (MMB-1), which you market for use with your flanged-channel sign support posts, meet Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements for breakaway devices. (Copies of drawings MMB-1, MMB-1-2, and MMB-1-3 of the revised device dated or last revised 10-13-89, 8-24-89, and 10-12-88, respectively, are enclosed) After comparing the drawings of the revised device with drawings of the previously tested model, which we indicated in our March 10, 1988, letter to Mr. Albert M. Moreno, Sr., of Minute man Anchors, Inc., would be acceptable on Federal-aid highway projects, we have concluded the modifications to the MMB-1 will have an insignificant effect on its breakaway characteristics. Therefore, the MMB-1, as described in the enclosed drawings, is acceptable as a replacement for the previously accepted version of the device.
