FHWA Highway Safety Programs

Highway Engineering and Traffic Safety (CVE5124)

This course is to provide an overview of highway engineering from programming through design to construction, as well as safety factors controlling the highway infrastructure design. Discussions include design characteristics and standards, surveying and mapping, geometric design, earthwork, drainage, legal and environmental considerations. Analysis of both macroscale and microscale safety factors will be covered. A term project will be done by students with either independent work or team work aiming a local safety problem that has been identified by Ohio Department of Transportation or local public works. View course on website
