Roosevelt Drive Safety and Realignment Project

Background:

Roosevelt Drive provides access to over 73,000 acres of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and approximately 40,000 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands.  The corridor also serves numerous private residences and is highly used by permitted commercial timber, mining, and livestock grazing activity. 

The proposed Roosevelt Drive Safety and Realignment Project will implement the preferred option from the 2019 Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) funded Preliminary Engineering Report.  Following FLAP funding of design and construction FLAP funding for project design and construction, a cost verification was completed and project limits refined due to construction cost increases. 

Project Goal/Description:

The proposed project consists of rehabilitating the first 2.75 miles of the Roosevelt Drive corridor on the existing alignment with select areas of alignment improvement.  The work is anticipated to include the following:

  • New pavement
  • Replace all Blacktail Creek culverts and minor culverts in poor condition.
  • Install new warning signs.
  • Establish/excavate ditches where possible to improve drainage and reduce erosion.
  • Place riprap at stream erosion areas to prevent future erosion.
  • Clear brush/trees/vegetation from clear zone to improve sight distance.
  • Stabilize areas in the roadway that have soft subgrades.
