Cooperative Driving Automation: Research into Automated Port Operations and Automated Commercial Motor Vehicle Operations
Project Information
The primary goal of this project is to develop and provide fundamental cooperative driving automation (CDA) technologies needed to improve freight operations. In particular, this project focuses on truck CDA-related activities being carried out by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and port drayage automation for the Maritime Administration. The Port Cooperative Driving Automation Drayage Truck Development and Testing initiative is a demonstration of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) in a port environment in a multi-year phased project to increase efficiencies, increase safety, and decrease emissions. The project objective is to further the technology implementation in our nation’s ports to accelerate the adoption of the technologies available, and to show a positive cost/benefit of automated truck movement in queues at ports and staging areas or warehouses.
