Fort Barfoot, Route 750 (Military Rd) & Tank and Railroad crossings on Route 40
State Route 750 (Military) Road is the primary access to the Maneuver Training Center, Fort Pickett via US Highway 460 (Cox Road) and State Route 40. It is also the primary route of Nottoway County Industrial Park traffic. The existing road section consists of a WWII era 7 to 9-inch thick, 36-foot wide Portland Cement Pavement with a 4-inch asphalt overlay, and is in bad condition and requires continuous maintenance.
The purpose of the project is to evaluate the pavement condition and improve the service life and rideability of Route 750 (Military Rd). The project also involves the design and replacement of tank and railroad crossings on Route 40 to accommodate larger tank geometry and weight, and align to current approach paths of the tanks. The additional improvement includes providing advance approach signs with flashing beacons during crossings for warning traffic that are hand and/or radio-activated.
The U.S. Department of Defense, Army has partnered with Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD) to deliver seven projects under the Defense Access Road Program. The list of projects can be found here:
