Due to security check at the entrance of Walker Gate, vehicles need to wait in the left turn lane on Mount Vernon Memorial Highway northbound, causing queuing of left-turning vehicles into the main thru lane northbound. The purpose of the project is to increase the left turn capacity along Mount Vernon Memorial Highway (Route 235) to reduce the occurrence of queuing of left-turning vehicles in the northbound thru lane. Additional improvements include improving pedestrian and bicycle access to Walker Gate, and evaluation of need for a traffic signal at the intersection of Mount Vernon Memorial Highway and Walker Road access to Walker Gate.
