This comprehensive course is designed to help state and local officials learn "HOW TO" address pedestrian safety issues in the development of a pedestrian safety action plan, and specific programs and activities tailored to their community.

Lesson 10: Designing for Pedestrian Safety

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Designing for Pedestrian Safety course is intended to help state and local transportation engineering professionals address pedestrian safety issues through design and engineering solutions. The training course includes a field exercise in the application of the principles, concepts, and strategies covered in the course. Also the participants will share and prioritize potential policies, programs, and strategies.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This training will assist planners and designers in learning how to apply the existing standards and how to deal with other technical issues involved. The availability of Federal, State, and local transportation funding for bicycle facilities that serve transportation and recreational users is resulting in a dramatic increase in the number of bicycling (and shared use) facilities being planned and built.
