Performance Measurement Application for Dynamic Mobility Application Program

Project Information

Project ID:
FHWA-PROJ-11-0008
Project Abstract:

A prototype application on performance measurement is being developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Transportation's dynamic mobility application (DMA) Program. The performance measurement application will estimate trip-based system productivity and traveler mobility performance measures, including travel time reliability, delay, and throughput. The application will make use of trip-based system performance measurement algorithms developed as part of the integrated corridor management (ICM) Program. The algorithms developed under the ICM estimate key measures of corridor performance (delay, travel time reliability, and throughput) from traffic simulation outputs. The proposed system will adapt the algorithmic approaches developed under Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) for use with observed data, including data from existing roadside sensors; data from existing roadside sensors as well as limited probe data (e.g., data from Bluetooth sniffers, global positioning systems (GPS), electronic toll collection readers, and license plate readers); and data that are likely to be available from wirelessly connected vehicles, roadside/wayside infrastructure, and travelers’ mobile devices. The application and all supporting documents and data will be released in an open data/open source environment through the DMA program's open source applications development portal, which is currently under development. Details on the licensing agreement still need to be identified.

Goals

Develop a prototype application on performance measurement that estimates trip-based system productivity and traveler mobility performance measures.
