Project Details

Project Description:

This project aims to conduct the foundational research and to prepare for the development and field testing/demonstration identification of an Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO). The INFLO bundle consists of the following high-priority applications:Queue Warning (Q-WARN).Dynamic Speed Harmonization (SPD-HARM).Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC).

Goals

The key project objective is to conduct the foundational analysis and design necessary to fully prepare for a field test/demonstration of an Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO).

For more information, see Concept Development and Needs Identification for Intelligent Network Flow Optimization (INFLO).

Deliverables

Deliverable Name:
Assessment of Relevant Prior and Ongoing Research
Deliverable Type:
Research report or guidelines
Deliverable Description:
An initial deliverable that will assist with the concept development and needs identification for Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO). It is called the "Assessment of Relevant Prior and Ongoing Research for INFLO" and its purpose is to provide a clear understanding of relevant research in the area of INFLO that might impact the development and eventual deployment of an INFLO system.
Deliverable Name:
Report on Stakeholder Input on Transformative Goals, Performance Measures and High Level User Needs for Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO)
Deliverable Type:
Research report or guidelines
Deliverable Description:
The purpose of this report is to document the stakeholder input received at the February 8, 2012 stakeholder workshop at the Hall of States in Washington, D.C. on goals, performance measures, transformative performance targets, and high-level user needs for the Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO) bundle of mobility applications. This input was used in the development of the Concept of Operations (ConOps) and high-level functional requirements for the INFLO applications.
Deliverable Name:
Concept of Operations
Deliverable Type:
Technical report
Deliverable Description:
The purpose of this Concept of Operations (ConOps) document is to provide a thorough conceptual overview of the Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO) bundle of applications that fully considers the impact of wireless connectivity on the surface transportation system. This document is intended to convey the INFLO concept to stakeholders who may develop or refine the applications or implement operational systems based on the concept.
Deliverable Name:
Functional and Performance Requirements and High-Level Data and Communications Needs
Deliverable Type:
Research report or guidelines
Deliverable Description:
The purpose of this document is to identify the functional requirements and high-level data and communication needs that must be accomplished in order to achieve the transformative goals identified in the Task 2.3 Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO) Concept of Operations (ConOps) document. This document is intended to communicate the requirements of the INFLO bundle of applications to the technical community who may develop and refine the applications or implement operational systems based on the concept.
Deliverable Name:
Test Readiness Assessment
Deliverable Type:
Research report or guidelines
Deliverable Description:
The purpose of this report is to summarize the key technical and nontechnical issues related to field-testing the Integrated Network Flow Optimization (INFLO) bundle of applications. In addition, the assessment identifies the core functions of the critical INFLO systems, provides recommendations to address identified issues related to those systems, and provides an assessment of their test readiness for the 2012-2013 timeframe.
