Project Description: 

Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil (GRS) can be used for abutments and/or the integrated bridge system; however, adequate design and construction guidance has not yet been established for closely spaced systems (reinforcement spacing less than or equal to 12 inches). This project will pull together 40 years of research and in-service structures to develop the guidelines that can be used for deployment in the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA's) Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative.

Goals: The main objective of this research is to develop design and construction guidelines for the Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS).
