Project Details
Project Description:
Concrete specimens with simulated joints will be cast and exposed to deicing salts, heating and cooling, wetting and drying, and freezing and thawing to determine the parameters and properties of concrete that resists deterioration, and to evaluate the path(s) of the deterioration to learn the critical factors leading to durability.
Goals
The key project objectives are to understand the concrete deterioration mechanism near existing concrete pavement joints and cracks, and to develop test(s) to use that mechanism to develop performance indicators and specifications.
