Laboratory
The HSIS laboratory is a virtual laboratory managed by FHWA and staffed by contractor analysts and research assistants. The laboratory uses the latest statistical and virtual collaboration software to provide high-quality safety data to safety researchers and educators. This includes linked roadway, traffic, and crash datasets, as well as access to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manipulate and display HSIS data. The HSIS laboratory provides support for the development and testing of GIS-based safety applications and other research platforms.
Participating States
In 1987, five States were chosen to be included in the HSIS: Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, and Utah. The primary criteria used in selecting the States...
