R&T Portfolio: Innovative Program Delivery
The research and technology efforts throughout the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) create new products and processes capable of transforming the transportation system in the United States. The safety, reliability, and performance benefits of the products are promising, but cannot realize their full potential without widespread adoption. To convert invention into innovation, FHWA develops promising innovative practices and assists partners interested in adopting them.
To encourage adoption of technological and process improvements in project delivery, FHWA operates programs and provides support for State and local and Tribal partners to use novel, proven solutions to address highway system needs. As one of FHWA’s four strategic goals, innovation is central to the mission of FHWA and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). To enhance the safety and performance of the Nation’s transportation system, FHWA accelerates development and promotes adoption of the technologies that will become standard practice in the years ahead.
Innovative Program Delivery Activities
Activities focus on promoting the widespread adoption of research, development, and technology products created within FHWA and elsewhere in the transportation industry. FHWA identifies promising new technologies and processes, provides opportunities and incentives for partners to adopt new practices, and assists State and local partners with training and technical assistance.
