Abstract:

This is a technical summary of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) report with the same title, FHWA-HRT-09-031. The safety effectiveness of various lane-shoulder width combinations for a fixed paved width is explored empirically in this study to provide better support to the States when selecting a lane-shoulder combination for a given paved width on rural, two-lane, undivided roads.
