LTPP Guide to Asphalt Temperature Prediction and Correction

FHWA-RD-98-085.pdf (1.65 MB)

Publication Information

Publication Type:
Report
Publication Number:
FHWA-RD-98-085
Abstract:

Deflection testing is an important tool for pavement evaluation. Critical for the use of this tool is the need to be able to adjust the results of the testing for the effects of the temperature of asphalt. The Seasonal Monitoring Program (SMP) of the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program has produced the largest single source of data regarding asphalt temperature and the corresponding deflection response. These data provided an opportunity to develop methods to predict the temperature within the asphalt and to adjust the deflection results for temperature effects.

The contents of this report will be of interest to pavement researchers and to engineers involved in routine deflection testing and analysis.
