This report presents findings from the results of a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in-house study investigating the performance of the current waterborne acrylic, epoxy, and polyurethane coatings on new steel surfaces. Both the cyclic laboratory tests and the outdoor marine exposure were used to evaluate the performance of different commercial waterborne products that were then compared with that of zinc-rich coatings. This report also presents the effect of chemical properties of primers on coating performance.
