Publication Type:
Report
Publication Number:
FHWA-HRT-24-011
Abstract:

This report examines how in recent years, State departments of transportation (DOTs) have established bridge preservation programs and made significant progress in bridge preservation practice and research. More bridge preservation technologies, planning strategies, and tools have been investigated and adopted to extend the service life and restore serviceability of existing bridges. The concept of using high-performance and durable materials, low-maintenance structure types, and details to extend the maintenance-free service life of new construction has become more widely accepted.
