Relationships Between Laboratory-Measured and Field-Derived Properties of Pavement Layers
Project Information
The primary objective of this contract is to Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) data and other data sources to develop a fundamental understanding of the factors underlying observed differences between laboratory-measured and field-derived properties of pavement layers to support development of improved methods and/or relationships that will allow both to be used interchangeably for design and performing analyses. The study should begin with the premise that backcalculated layer moduli and laboratory-resilient moduli are different, and that it may not be possible to derive simple relationships to enable interchangeable use. It is anticipated that the research will look into fundamental principles and go beyond a primarily empirical statistical correlation study.
