Noise Analysis Tools Development
Project Information
FHWA’s Traffic Noise Model (TNM), is a regulatory tool for conducting noise studies on Type I and II projects. Volpe will support the development of tools to aid the TNM user and acoustics developers. These tools will be standalone, and depending on user feedback, may be integrated into future versions of TNM. These tools include:
- Automated Consistency Test Suite Tool.
- Highway Noise Screening Tool.
- Sound Demonstration Tool.
- 693JJ319N300053
- Planning, Environment, and Realty
- FY 2002-2022 / Planning, Environment, and Realty / Modeling and Analysis Tools
- Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation
- Data and Analysis
- Automated Consistency Test Suite Tool and User Guide.
- XML file format documentation required for use of the Automated Consistency Test Suite Tool.
- Screening Tool and User Guide.
- Sound Demonstration Tool.
Automated Consistency Test Suite Tool
- Reduce level of effort for third party developers to prove consistency with TNM.
- Reduce human error when proving consistency with TNM.
- Decrease time for validation testing between versions of TNM.
Highway Noise Screening Tool
- Allow noise analyst to focus time and effort where impacts are most likely to occur on a given project.
- For simple cases produces same values as TNM.
Sound Demonstration Tool
- Analyst can understand better differences in how quite/loud, tonal/noisy sounds are perceived.
- Analyst can understand how different vehicle types, volumes and speeds affect perceived sound.
