NHI Unveils New Logo and Slogan

The National Highway Institute (NHI) unveiled a newly designed logo and slogan intended to convey progress and change, while recognizing NHI's tradition. Coupled with the new logo is NHI's theme "Training Solutions for Transportation Excellence," a phrase that acknowledges the many ways of learning -- ways beyond traditional classroom instruction. NHI's mission remains the same: to help our customers select, develop, implement, and evaluate the training solutions that best meet their needs.

You'll see these changes and several others in the new Transportation Training Resources Catalog 2000. The catalog has been expanded beyond the traditional NHI course offerings. Now presented in this publication are workshops and seminars offered by the FHWA program offices and Resource Centers, as well as surface training programs provided by other non-profit organizations.

Free ITS Distance-Learning Course Available

A new distance-learning course, Planning Regionally Integrated ITS: A Web-Based Learning Network -- The California Paradigm, is now available. This course is being offered through the University of California-Berkeley, an NHI partner. This course offers instruction at the Web-based learning site based on two federal Professional Capacity-Building courses: "ITS and the Planning Process" and "Planning for Deployment of Regionally Integrated ITS." The site also includes information and examples specific to California. The general goal is to provide just-in-time training and support for mainstreaming ITS projects into the regular regional planning process. This course is free. CORSIM Course Offered

NHI Course #13622 Using the CORSIM Traffic Simulation Model, provides an understanding of CORSIM-- a tool that simulates traffic and traffic control conditions on combined surface street and freeway networks. CORSIM determines how traffic engineering and control strategies impact a prescribed network's operational performance, as expressed in terms of various Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs). The MOREs (such as speed and delay) provide insight into the effects of the applied strategy on traffic operations and provide the basis for optimizing the applied strategy. CORSIM is a powerful tool that can be applied to wide areas of interest.
