A new $2.4 million Federal Highway Administration grant will fund a new Colorado River bridge to ease congestion on the Hoover Dam, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said today. The new bridge will expand and improve the critical CANAMEX trade corridor that stretches from Jalisco, Mexico, to Alberta, Canada.

"A new crossing over the Colorado River will help manufacturers and merchants move more goods, safely and with less congestion," Secretary Mineta said. "The Bush Administration's investment in our transportation infrastructure fuels opportunity and prosperity across America."

The $2,452,551 grant for the new bypass bridge will expand the capacity of U.S. 93. It also will improve security for the Lake Mead and Colorado River water supply and improve safety for the approximately 20,000 vehicles that cross over the Hoover Dam each day.

"President Bush knows that transportation investments are ensuring that goods make it to store shelves, and helping drivers in Arizona and Nevada get to their jobs and home again safely and on time," said Federal Highway Administrator Mary E. Peters.
