A new Federal Highway Administration grant will keep traffic flowing at a key interchange in Las Vegas, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta announced today.

"This funding will help us build a quicker and safer route through this section of Las Vegas," said Secretary Mineta. "Projects like this help fuel our economy, save the lives of our citizens and ensure opportunity and prosperity in communities across America."

The $1,051,093 grant will be used for an overpass above the Union Pacific railroad crossing at the interchange at Interstate 15 and Craig Road. The overpass will eliminate the current at-grade rail crossing that is used by nearly 60,000 vehicles per day. The new overpass also will improve access to nearby Nellis Air Force Base.

"President Bush knows that transportation investments are ensuring that goods make it to store shelves, and helping Nevadans get to their jobs and home again safely and on time," said Federal Highway Administrator Mary E. Peters.
